My Philosophy

I believe most people struggle at times with their purpose, identity, relationships, and professional direction. My diligence and commitment to excellence is exemplified in my study, work and personal interests. As an adoptee I understand the complex reality of personal identity and family dynamics. Woman’s issues, conflict resolution, sexual abuse, poor self esteem and self image, self medicating and depression are all professional interests. During the course of life many experience hardship and disappointment; left fractured and downtrodden. Too many have over-identified with family difficulty  and often times have taken up the cause of abusive relationships and have wrongfully integrated the shame and guilt. Women are too often at odds with our bodies. Sometimes because of abuse other times because of unrealistic ideals. We blame it for its imperfection and have come to harshly judge ourselves. The body becomes the receptacle for all that is wrong and should be better. Learn to relate to your body in a loving and authentic way. With increased insight and understanding practical changes can affect your quality of life in real time. We can establish new thresholds, appreciate new horizons and create a more fulfilling reality. Your ability to manage challenges can improve as you become "practiced" at challenging self defeating thoughts and self-limiting behaviors. The result can be transformative. Counseling can help you identify ways to think, feel and behave which can improve your sense of wellness.

Background

Graduating from Hoftstra University’s New College (1991) with honors I entered Adelphi University’s School of Social Work (1993). I am bilingual English-Greek.  I focus professional efforts on empowering individuals to reclaim their lives and have particular interest in working with those in leadership roles. Often times community leaders, counselors and ministers are forced into a dual existence where private health and wellness takes a backseat to public personas. Other professional interests include: Serving  those who are struggling with brain tumor treatment and the aftermath of recovery.
